Oh mornings...

As I was laying in bed this morning I couldn't help but thinking about my baby.   The only real proof I have s/he is in there is the morning sickness, but soon that won't be so!  Jared and I get to hear the heartbeat for the first time in a week from this Friday (April 15)!  I am so excited.  It's hard to imagine that a real baby is in there.  A real, tiny, mini Jared and Britton.  What will s/he look like?  I'm so thankful for this baby.

This Sunday Jared and I have the opportunity to give a talk on our favorite General Conference talk.  I'm really nervous to get up in front of the amazing people in our ward but I'm working up the courage!
Tonight is Chili Verde for dinner.  It's one of our favorite dinners so I decided to include the recipe here.  I had a horrible time cutting the chicken, so this may be one of the last times we'll have it in a while unfortunately!
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lbs. chicken, cubed
  • 1
    teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 onion, minced or diced
  • cloves garlic, minced

Pretty much just put salt and pepper on the chicken and cook a little in the oil and butter.  Sautee Onion and garlic then put everything in a crock pot for 5-6 hours.  SO yummy.  We eat it with tortillas, chips and salsa.  My favorite thing to do with the leftovers is put over a tortilla with eggs.  LOVE it.  You will too ;)
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa verde (you can find it in the mexican food isle)

The Dreaded First Post

I've had a few blogs in the past and can I just say how much I hate the first blog post?  It's like going on an awkward first date.  Like a first date there's the silent pauses of when I don't know what to write that seem to take up an eternity, then when I start writing I kind of babble for a while till I realize I'm talking too much.  So short and sweet here's a tidbit about our bite-size family.

I am Britton-Lee Powers, 21 years old and a mom-to-be.  Sometimes I wonder if that's enough.  I wish I could say I have a nursing degree or I have solved some world problem but I haven't.  My life is pretty simple.  I have a wonderful husband whom I absolutely adore.  I have a sweet baby on  the way, due in November.  I love my life and wouldn't have it any other way.

My husband is Jared Powers.  He's a 27 year old Texas-born man and VERY handsome.  He's going to the University of Utah for a degree in communications with a desire to go to law school after.  I have to say I admire him for all that he does.  He's very busy with school and on top of that works to provide for our family.

We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and both have strong testimonies about it.  We love our church and it's the center of our lives.  It has taught us that we have a goal and purpose in life which we strive for each day.  (To learn a little more about it go to http://lds.org/?lang=eng).  We were married in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on December 18, 2010.  It was so beautiful... and cold!

We both have amazing families that we love so much.
My family- Mom, Dad, Austin, Houston and Trinity.  They're all so wonderful.  Dad (my hero!) is in Djibouti for a 1 year deployment so he'll be back in March of 2012.  Mom is such a strong beautiful woman who takes great care of her kids.  All of my siblings are so sweet and great people.

Jared's family- I love them all so much already.  Each of them are just great people who welcomed me to the family with open arms.  His parents are awesome and his siblings are so fun and great people.  I can't wait to see them again.  They all live in Texas, but hopefully we'll see them soon.

Now that you know a little about me and my family I'll end this "date" on that note :)
